Library Policies
An application for a yearly Library Membership can be made in person at the Library.
New Kahnawake Library Fees starting September 1, 2009.
$5- Children 12 yrs and under
$5- Elders 65 yrs and over
$10- Students 12 yrs and over with current ID
$20- Kahnawake Residents 16yrs and over
$40- Non Residents 16yrs and over
Family Plan- 4 or more 10% off
LIBRARY RULES
Library card required to borrow books: Borrower is responsible for books checked out.
BORROWING PERIOD: 2 weeks; BORROWING LIMIT: Adults 4 books, Children 2 books.
Please return books on DATE DUE. Overdue fees will be charged at 0.25 cents per day, per book.
Patrons with fines exceeding $20.00 will not be allowed to check out books until fines are paid.
Date due renewals accepted by phone, unless item is reserved; Books may be reserved for 2 days.
Borrowing privileges will be lost if books are not returned after 1 MONTH from DATE DUE.
Replacement cost of books will be charged to borrower if books are not returned.
Library is not responsible for the safety of children left unattended.
Use of cellular phones, radios, video games is not permitted in the library; CD/MP3/IPods with headphones on low volume are permitted.
Except for seeing-eye dogs, animals are not allowed in the library.
Sleeping is not permitted in the library, except for babies/toddlers accompanied by adults.
Appropriate attire required (ex: no wet bathing suits, shirts and shoes required, no roller blades).
Disruptive patrons will be asked to leave: loud, rude or aggressive behavior; very offensive body odor.
No smoking. No food or beverages (except in designated areas).
Personal belongings should be able to fit under a chair; large packages, luggage etc. not permitted; library is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

General Library Rules
The Kahnawake Library welcomes all and the public is expected to behave in a manner that is respectful of the Library's users, staff, materials, equipment, facilities and premises. Any person who behaves otherwise will be required to leave the building.
Patrons shall be engaged in activities associated with the use of a public library while in the building. Patrons not engaged in reading, studying or using library materials may be required to leave the building.
The following activities not associated with the use of a public library are specifically prohibited:
Smoking
Sleeping
Eating and drinking, except in designated areas
Bringing animals into the library, except for assistive dogs
Abusing, misusing or vandalizing library facilities, furnishings or equipment
Rearranging or disarranging library furnishings or materials
Damaging, mutilating, cutting pages from library materials
Entering areas posted "staff only"
Patrons shall respect the rights of other patrons and staff and shall not harass or annoy others by:
Begging or soliciting
Staring at or following another person about the library with the intent to annoy that person
Loud, offensive or abusive language, gestures or other behaviour which is disturbing to others
Use of personal radios, televisions, video games or cellular phones
Bodily hygiene that is so offensive as to constitute a nuisance to others in the library.
More General Library Rules
Shirts and shoes must be worn in the library; bathing suits are prohibited.
Respect library property and the property of others. Keep feet off chairs, tables and counters, and treat the collection, furnishings, facilities and equipment with care.
Be watchful of your personal possessions. The library is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal property.
Adults are responsible for the conduct of children in their charge and are required to monitor their behavior.
It is not advisable to leave children under the age of 7 unattended. The library is not responsible for the safety of children left unattended.
